(For some upcoming posts you’ll need to buy the kit to join in so here’s a heads-up of what’s coming over the next 2 months. JL)
basically this:
👩💻 Programming robots (March 29 - April 2)
🐍 Python programming (April 5-16)
📷 Survivalist optics: Make a Camera from Scratch (April 12-16)
Have you ever thought:
Sure, I want robot minions, but where do I start? Where do I buy the legs?
I’ve got you covered. Read on, here’s what’s coming soon:
1. 👩💻 Robotics with the Crumble Controller (March 29 - April 2)
We’ll build a robot and program it to do our bidding. Crumble is drag-and-drop, perfect if you’re starting out but also nice because we get to focus more on thinking through the challenges. Gonna be great!
Shopping list - (these are 🇬🇧💂🫖 links)
The Crumble controller chip. (use the dropdown option for a USB cable if you need one. Can you attach a USB cable to your computer? Some newer laptops (I’m looking at you Apple!) will need a USB C hub.)
The crumble software. It’s free! 🎉
A screwdriver set. It’s not free 🤷♀️
2. 🐍 Python Round 2! (April 5 - 16 )
There will be codes to break, puzzles to solve and error messages to stare at with a puzzled expression.
You’ll need:
A computer. (got this covered I see)
Click here if you missed the last round of Python posts. They were all about breaking codes. 🕵️♂️
3. 📷 Make a Camera (April 12 - 16)
Let’s make a camera from scratch. Think of it as as your custom instagram filter!
You’ll need:
A lens; easiest to take it from a magnifying glass.
Cardboard(I suggest the ‘EB’ kind1). Or save your Amazon boxes!
A glue gun. These aren’t as messy as they sound. They’re messy, just not as messy as they sound.
A cutting board. Some of my furniture is nice.
Craft knife. Some of my furniture is ruined (see glue gun).
A safety ruler. I have all my fingers.
Optional
Magnets. Fridge magnet strength.
I’ll pin this post on the main page so it’s easy to find.
As usual the first day of each series will be free and the rest will be paid.
See you next time! And drop me a line if there’s anything you want to cover in one of these series. I’m open to suggestions.
